The Aquila Private Game Reserve is
4,500 hectares of biodiversity in the ancient Karoo
wilderness region. It's an environment of mountains, valleys, wetland
and rivers, which is home to a wide
variety of wild animals
and birds.

what you'll see
Wildlife & Birds The
Big 5 roam
freely on the Aquila Game Reserve. These are the lion,
elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo and Mountain Leopard. Other
well
known animals you'll see are hippopotamus, giraffe, herds of
wildebeest (gnu), zebra, springbok, eland, jackal and many
others.

There
are about 172
species of bird life including
the endangered Black Eagle of which several
breeding pairs
are
found here. There are also flamingos which
congregate on the wetland in the winter season.
Safaris out of Cape town
You can choose between
day and overnight safari
packages
at Aquila.
These include the
traditional guided 4x4 game drive which incorporates visits to original
Khoisan rock painting sites, horseback safaris for ages 15 yrs
and older which allow you to get that much closer to the animals, or a combination of the two which is very
popular. If
you're feeling
adventurous, there
are also quad
bike
safaris.
Children
are welcome at the game reserve. Under 4 is no charge,
and you'll only pay half price for ages 4-11.
Facilities These
safari packages
include meals and allow you plenty of time to enjoy the
facilities at the reserve. On the Day Safari for example,
you'll have ample
time to cool off in the swimming pool, and browse the curio shop before returning to Cape
Town.
Safaris
out of Cape town
If you go for
an overnight
safari you'll be spending your first morning at the Aquila Game Reserve
at the
salt water swimming pool in summer, or close to a warm log fire in the
lounge, in winter. That evening after your wildlife safari you'll enjoy
a traditional African dinner or braai
(barbecue).
Chalet
Accommodation
The reserve is
well
known for its luxury chalet accommodation. You'll be spending the night
in Premier
or Luxury
chalets which
are built from natural materials on the reserve. The Premier
chalets are private and air
conditioned.
There's even a honey
moon
suite with a jacuzzi and great views.

Safaris

there
From
Cape Town you have the option of 'self drive' - driving
yourself to the
game reserve out along the N1 motorway, or to be provided with transport by
a safari representative - leaving the reserve at
15h00
approx.
to return
to Cape Town.
